A thermodynamics-informed active learning approach to perception and reasoning about fluids

چکیده

Abstract Learning and reasoning about physical phenomena is still a challenge in robotics development, computational sciences play capital role the search for accurate methods able to provide explanations past events rigorous forecasts of future situations. We propose thermodynamics-informed active learning strategy fluid perception from observations. As model problem, we take sloshing different fluids contained glass. Starting full-field high-resolution synthetic data particular fluid, develop method tracking (perception) simulation (reasoning) any previously unseen liquid whose free surface observed with commodity camera. This approach demonstrates importance physics knowledge not only data-driven (gray-box) modeling but also real-physics adaptation low-data regimes partial observations dynamics. The presented extensible other domains such as development cognitive digital twins learn observation which they have been trained explicitly.

iranian english learners’ perception and personality: a dual approach to investigating influential factors on willingness to communicate

abstract previous studies on willingness to communicate (wtc) have shown the influence of many individual or situational factors on students’ tendency to engage in classroom communication, in which wtc has been viewed either at the trait-level or situational level. however, due to the complexity of the notion of willingness to communicate, the present study suggests that these two strands are ...

Qualitative and Quantitative Reasoning About Thermodynamics

One goal of qualitative physics is to capture the mental models of engineers and scientists . This paper shows how Qualitative Process theory can be used to express concepts of engineering thermodynamics . This encoding provides the means to integrate qualitative and quantitative knowledge for solving textbook thermodynamics problems . These ideas have been implemented in a program called SCHIS...

Reasoning about Perception

This paper focuses on the uncouscious mechanisms underlying the process of acquisition of belief through perception. We outlines the basics of a formal theory of belief that is sensitive to the way in which beliefs are formed through perception. The process of formation of beliefs involves a form of inference that is defeasible. We represent this kind of inference by means of well-known techniq...

Reasoning about Fluids via Molecular Collections

Hayes has identified two distinct ontologies for reasoning about liquids . Most qualitative physics research has focused on applying and generalizing his contained-liquid ontology. This paper presents a technique for generating descriptions using the molecular collection (MC) ontology, a specialization of his alternate ontology which represents liquids in terms of little "pieces of stuff " trav...
